ATTORNEY PROFILE
Michael John Donohue
Michael John Donohue was born on April 14, 1967, in Cape May Court
House, New Jersey. Upon graduation from Middle Township High School
in 1985, Mr. Donohue entered the World Politics program at the Catholic
University of America in Washington, D.C. As a junior at Catholic,
Mr. Donohue was accepted into an overseas program which took him
to Dublin, Ireland, where he attended classes at the Institute of
Public Administration and served as a legislative assistant to a
member of the Irish Parliament.
Mr. Donohue graduated from Catholic in 1989 with a Bachelor of
Arts degree in World Politics. Mr. Donohue spent the 1990-1991 scholastic
year as a volunteer teacher at St. Joseph High School on the island
of St. Croix. He taught junior and senior religion/social justice
and sophomore English. He coached the St. Joe’s mock trial
team to the Virgin Islands
Championship, taking the team to the Nationals in New Orleans,
Louisiana.
In the fall of 1991, Mr. Donohue entered the Catholic
University’s Columbus School of Law where he completed his
first year of law school. He then transferred to the Stetson University
College of Law in St. Petersburg, Florida. While at Stetson Mr.
Donohue served as a Labor Law research assistant to future Dean,
Gary Vause and also created and completed a clinic as an intern
in the City of St. Petersburg’s Labor Relations Division.
Mr. Donohue graduate Cum Laudé from Stetson in May 1994.
Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Donohue returned to Cape May
County where he maintained a solo legal practice before joining
the firm.
In 1998, Mr. Donohue was the top vote-getter and elected to one
of two open Stone Harbor Borough Council seats from a four person
field of candidates. He served as Chair of the Health & Welfare
Committee and later as the Chair of the Public Works Committee.
In 2001 Mr. Donohue became the BoroughSolicitor/Municipal Prosecutor,
a position he still holds.
As a legal practitioner, Mr. Donohue has handled complex business,
real estate, insurance, divorce and municipal litigation. He has
also served as defense counsel in criminal matters ranging from
homicide to traffic tickets. He now serves, as he has since 2000,
as a Municipal Prosecutor. His area of responsibility includes Stone
Harbor, Avalon and Lower Township Municipal Courts where he has
successfully prosecuted hundreds of drunk drivers; convicted domestic
violence assailants and handles other disorderly persons and other
non-felony matters.
Mr. Donohue married former Washington Times and Atlantic City
Press reporter Jeannemarie Dewey in September 1997. The couple have
three children and reside in Dennis Township.
