Family adopts twins to help dying mother

Families adopt children for many different reasons. A family in New Jersey might choose to adopt because they are unable to have their own children, while another family across the nation might adopt simply because they want to expand their family. No matter the reason, a family law attorney can help families to greet their newest additions as quickly as possible. One family chose to adopt after losing one of their own children to illness as well as to help a dying mother pregnant with twins.

The parents adopting the twins had adopted before. They decided to adopt for the first time due to difficulties that the mother had with the delivery of her first child. She had nearly died from a type of preeclampsia called HELLP syndrome. Afterward, the parents decided to adopt their second daughter. Soon after the adoption was finalized, they discovered that the wife was pregnant with what would be their third child.

Her second pregnancy was monitored closely, and she gave birth to the couple's first son. At about 18 months old, the child developed a fever and was taken to the doctor for treatment. Doctors said that he did not have the flu and gave him medication to lower his fever. Unfortunately, the child died later that same evening. It was later discovered that the child's fever was an indication of viral myocarditis.

Even before the child's death, the parents had been discussing adoption again. They had heard earlier that year that a woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness was looking for a family to adopt her unborn twins. Doctors had said that she needed an organ transplant and that she would likely not survive childbirth. In an effort to raise money for the adoption, the parents have been working with Both Hands Foundation. Volunteers working with this foundation ask for sponsors like people sometimes do for charity races, and the funds raised go towards the family's adoption fees.

There are as many reasons for adoption as there are families seeking to adopt. Seeking the advice of a family law attorney can help New Jersey residents to begin the process of expanding their families as quickly as possible. Attorneys might be able to suggest adoption agencies or other programs for the prospective parents to go through.
